Awareness Team

An awareness team will be available for you at WESTWIND festival. As the word implies, awareness signifies mindfulness and understanding.

We want WESTWIND festival to be a place where all participants can feel comfortable. Therefore, we shall in no way facilitate discrimination such as racism, sexism, queerphobia, ableism, adultism, classism or anti-Semitism. Similarly, we shall not tolerate any other violent, aggressive or transgressive behaviour.

The awareness team is available if you experience or observe transgressive or discriminatory behaviour. Likewise, if you feel uncomfortable for other reasons or find yourself in a distressing situation, feel free to seek us out. We are there to listen and support you. In doing so, we aim to focus on the needs of those affected and will not question your experiences. You define for yourself when your boundaries have been crossed. Together we can contemplate how best to meet your needs in each situation and, if necessary, mediate between parties. Nothing shall be done against the will of the persons involved. Moreover, we promise to respect your privacy and will not pass along anything revealed to us without your consent.

In addition, the awareness team will accompany the panel discussions.

The awareness team will be available at Brotfabrik during peak festival hours as well as on-site at some external events. Just look for those of us wearing purple sashes. Additionally, you can typically reach us at the following phone number: 0176/42753568

Code of conduct for a discrimination-free Westwind festival

This code of conduct for the Westwind theatre festival is designed to ensure that all participants treat each other with respect and sensitivity. The organisers will enforce these rules throughout the entire festival and all participants are expected to abide by them.

1. No discrimination:

Discrimination is not welcome here in any form. Sexism, anti-Semitism, racism, ableism, transphobia, queerphobia, classism, adultism and other kinds of discrimination have no place with us.

2. Violence-free zone:

Everyone should feel comfortable and safe at Westwind festival. The use of physical or psychological violence (e.g. bullying) is therefore prohibited.

3. Be mindful of language:

The use of offensive, violent, derogatory or discriminatory language will not be tolerated. Participants are asked to be mindful of their choice of words and to try to use inclusive and respectful terms, such as respecting desired pronouns or forms of address.

4. Respect differences:

Please be aware of the fact that our participants have different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. Not all participants have had access to the same opportunities or privileges when it comes to agency. Be mindful of each other!

5. Conserve resources:

The festival aims to be as sustainable as possible. Please be mindful of your use of resources and the environment.

→ Addressing incidents:

If you experience or observe transgressive or discriminatory behaviour, do not hesitate to contact the awareness team. The awareness team will be available at Brotfabrik during peak festival hours as well as on-site at some external events. Awareness team members can be identified by their purple sashes. Additionally, you can typically reach us at the following phone number: 0176/42753568 (WhatsApp/Signal/Telegram possible).

→ Consequences for violations:

In the event of violations of this code of conduct, the organisational team or the awareness team will seek a dialogue with the individuals involved while keeping in mind that people may be at different points in their learning process about discrimination. We reserve the right to issue warnings or exclude offenders from the events.

We strive for Westwind festival to be a place where all participants feel comfortable at all times. We can achieve this together by adhering to this code of conduct.

Have a great time :)
